    Fixing Up the Girls’ Room

    July 9, 2018

Warm air. Long days. Sunny skies. Trips to the pool. Free time. No school.

    Yes, I’m talking about summer.

    I love summer. Don’t you?

Summer makes me happy. Happiness makes me feel motivated. Motivation makes me get stuff done.

I’ll say it again, I LOVE SUMMER!

As soon as the weather started warming up and the sun stayed in the sky longer, I immediately started making a list of all the things I’d like to do/work on this summer—most of them being house projects of course.

Living in our little fixer upper has been a challenge of sorts. We absolutely love where we live, but this house hasn’t really made things easy for us. And while I believe that when you love where you live, what you live in doesn’t really matter much. I also believe you should feel at home in your house. It should feel like your own little piece of heaven for you and your family to enjoy. For us, and what I envision for our home, that means less clutter, more organization, and more intention in what comes into our home to stay. Do we really need this or that? Does this make me feel joy? Etc. etc.

Well, it’s summer and I feel ready to tackle a space that hasn’t brought much joy to my life—the girls’ shared bedroom. Dun. Dun. Dun.

It’s a room we really haven’t touched since moving in 2.5 years ago. It still has wallpaper that needs removing, and it’s missing closet doors. I would love for this room to be a place my girls love to be in. Because right now, they choose to spend their time in the living room or my bedroom—the two places in the house that have been redone and are kept relatively clean. I like to think that if they love their room, and they find joy in it, well then maybe they’ll be more likely to take pride in it and take care of it.

So for the month of July, we will be participating in a challenge hosted by Live Free Miranda—a blogger who focuses on simplifying life as well. Her cute family just bought a tiny old house in Richmond, VA and are turning it into something beautiful! Just go look at their kitchen—it’s amazing!

I’m super excited for this challenge. I’m pretty scatter brained, and Mike and I have a habit of starting new projects before others are finished, but this challenge is going to force me to focus on one space and finish it in a month. Think we can do it? 😉

I’ll be posting regular updates as we go! For now, here are some “before” pictures of their room. Don’t mind the gigantic mess! We started peeling wallpaper when I realized I didn’t have a proper before pic! Oh well, the messier the before picture is, the better the after picture will look ;).
